UNIVERSITY OF LIMERICK
Kemmy Business School
The University of Limerick was established in 1972 as the National Institute for Higher Education, Limerick and was inaugurated as the University of Limerick (UL) in 1989. UL has independent degree-awarding powers and is one of seven Irish public universities recognised under the Universities Act, 1997. It provides undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to more than 13,000 students.
The Kemmy Business School (KBS) is one of four faculties within the university and is a dynamic and innovative business school with a reputation, established over 40 years, for providing a first class business education that prepares graduates for successful and rewarding careers in a variety of business disciplines and professions.
The KBS is academic home to 2,700 students and over 100 faculty and staff in four constituent departments:
• Accounting and Finance
• Economics
• Management and Marketing
• Personnel and Employment Relations
The Kemmy Business School’s mission statement:
“As a leading Irish business school in a public university system, KBS is committed to excellence in teaching and to fostering knowledge and understanding of business and society within a diverse, research-active and socially engaged environment.”
Emphasises academic excellence and social commitment and is a fitting reminder of the need to view education as a contributor to social good as well as a means to economic prosperity. Against a background of very significant challenges and opportunities, the Kemmy Business School has identified four key goals in its Strategic Plan 2011-2016, through which to enhance its national and international reputation:
1. To provide an outstanding and distinctive student-centred education
2. To strengthen excellence in research
3. To further internationalise all relevant aspects of KBS
4. To provide leadership in economic, social and community development
These strategic goals reflect long-established core values of KBS, and find expression in the School’s vision “to be a business school that delivers an outstanding educational experience, is research active, internationalised and socially engaged, with an international reputation for specialist areas of expertise“.
From July 2017, the University of Limerick has a double degree agreement with HEC Liege between the following programmes:
- MSc. in Economics and Policy Analysis (University of Limerick)
- Master en sciences économiques à finalité specialisée en «Economics and Society» (HEC Liege)
